Is Applied Anthropology Helping to Develop a Science of Man

In his review of Muhlmann's collection of theoretical essays, Honigmann1 calls attention to the current peak of brilliance in cultural anthropology. We have but to pause a moment to note the high caliber and originality of much work by anthropologists today. This applies not only to cultural anthropology but to virtually all fields of the discipline: human genetics, linguistics, archaeology, ethnography, and psychiatric anthropology, for example. Applied anthropologists, working at a fast pace amid the complexities of the midcentury, may not fully appreciate the extent to which our specialty is involved in the current productive period
