Studies have demonstrated that many Western schizophrenics suffer from a ruptured linear time conception reflected in their inability to relate their present to past and future. It is hypothesized that the futurist clean leaf rehabilitation model, according to which past failures are to be conceived as a closed book, is rooted in an unshakeable Oedipal original-sin conception, which perpetuates cognitive dissonance between past, present and future. Based on case studies taken from the Jewish Midrash, a rehabilitation perspective is presented according to which repenters may reinterpret and contract their failing past by identifying with Biblical role-models who sinned but were subsequently acquitted by the Midrash. The differentiation between the cognitive dissonance based hermetic conception of the past and the cognitive consonance oriented hermeneutic approach to the past, is intended to comprise the components for an intrapersonal model of dialogue in time in which the contracted I (past failure) may enter into dialogue with the expanding thou (future goals)
