Exchange has always been a central issue among South Andean archaeologists. Usually, explanations have been centred in stylistic similarity or complementary resources. In this paper we attempt to demonstrate that the use of different classes or evidence will render a more insightful understanding of exchange relationships of material objects as part of a wider set of social interaction strategies that structure and reproduce societies. Therefore, obsidian sourcing analysis from sites on the western side or the Aconquija (Catamarca, Argentina) and other areas can be usetl to reinterpreting interaction and discuss the principies normally assumed as structuring exchange relationships
