Small Farming on Kauai

The outstanding difference is that many of the Kalaheo farmers do not depend entirely on their land for a living. The Kalaheo small farming district in southern Kauai consists of three adjoining areas, namely, Kalaheo, Lawai, and Omiao. In the Kalaheo area there are 160 farms averaging 12' 2 acres per farm; those in the lower, younger section, however, are appreciably larger than those in the upper, older section of Kalaheo; in Lawai there are 69 farms with an average of 13'2 acres, and in Omao, 49 averaging 6 acres.
