Des genres populaires à la télévision

This article examines the intermedia circulation of genres by drawing on the results of an audience study on the « question-answer » television genre and on the relationship between the latter and the transgenre constituted by riddles. Considering, following A. Jolies, the riddle as a simple, universal form before its transposition to mass communication, the author wonders what is left of a transgenre when it is mediated, and what changes occur. By causing the material and social space of the riddle to disappear, question-answer programmes change the game, particularly by transforming the individual into a genre
