An unpublished coin from the provincial mint of Alexandria in the year 18 of Hadrian presents on the reverse a hitherto unknown type. The busts of two deities are facing each other, on two different planes. Within the arms of the male deity in the foreground a child, also male, is curled up. The present study intends to recognize in the coin the regal triad Ammon-Demeter-Harpocrat and to read in the appearance of such a motif in 133/4 A.D. the more and more pressing concern to see Hadrian choose a successor, failing to be able to conceive one biologically with Sabina
