The concept of text processing was devised and developed to achieve a systematic treatment of all the ways of producing a text on the basis of an existent text and at least partially retaining the meaning of that text. Translation is one such way and an instance of text processing of particular interest in that it aims at preserving the meaning as well as many structural features of a given text although providing an entirely new and different linguistic expression. Most of the other cases of text processing involve serious alterations in the meaning and structure of the original as well as in its linguistic expression. There are cases of translation which, more than just reworking a given text into a new one by translating it into a different linguistic medium of expression, make use of several earlier translations of the same text or even other texts or
