Léopold Sédar Senghor has been criticized by his detractors and praised by his supporters. As his 90th birthday is being celebrated all over the world, it seems however that the essence of his originality as a man, a poet and an essayist has never been fully grasped.This essay is an endeavour to display less passion and give more attention to the life journey of the poet-President over the test of time. Such an approach leads to a simple moving conclusion.
