Teaching is an attractive profession in Canada. Eligible applicants to teacher education programs typically outnumber available places by 4 to 1. In Canada, teaching confers high occupational status, professional salaries and working conditions, near certainty of graduation once enrolled in a program, and a generally favorable job market. Admission to a teacher education program confers a significant, desirable benefit, but the process of admission to teacher education programs is rather arbitrary. In the analysis, the AA. focus on admissions criteria intended to predict success as a student in the teacher education program or as a classroom teacher
