A Independência E O Lugar Da Nação No Imaginário Da Elite Política Brasileira

The article analyses the building of the national political imaginary in a crucial period: the brazilian independence. After the rupture with Portugal it was necessary to establish a new political agreement, which implied in the constitution of a national imaginary. Main attention was given to the colonial elites, leaders of the independence process and central actors in the political scene. Furthermore, the paper analyses the debate concerning the national subject, which contained important political definitions to the brazilian state structure
