This paper considers the role of different variables in the formation of use-wear striations on obsidian scrapers. An experiment is detailed in which both wet and dry leather strips were worked in the presence or absence of grit and/or fat. The results are discussed, and it is concluded that moisture in conjunction with grit are the significant factors in the formation of use-wear striations in obsidian
