Carrefour de Cultures

In the context of teaching and learning foreign languages, the relations between cultures are the main object of studies and investigations which seeks, in general, to identify and put in evidence how the studied language is associated with a range of manifestations that expresses different ways to be and act in the world.The various documents, oral, written, or multimodal, utilized in the classroom show the complex relationship between language and cultural manifestations.However, this aspect often seems not to highlight the different student's voices, and many apprenticeships are left behind in the process of learning a new language itself.Due to this fact, this research had the objective to comprehend and identify, from the student's point of view, what are those intercultural manifestations and how they can be demonstrated in the teaching and learning context.As a theoretical background, the investigation is based predominantly on the concept of culture from modern anthropology adopted by two main authors, Roy Wagner (1975) who discusses reverse anthropology, and Eduardo Viveiros de Castro with his approach to Amerindian perspectivism.From the language didactic, the embraced references were Abdallah-Pretceille (1999); Devin (2017).With regard to the methodological aspects, the research has a qualitative nature based on an ethnographic approach, to evidence that the cultural manifestations go beyond the classroom and comprehend other social places where the students are embedded.In this way, using oral and written production in the French language, the students between 15 and 19 years old, registered in two study groups in the Language Study Center of São Paulo State, located in Osasco city, took place in a project named Carrefour de Cultures during 2021.The research data were collected during the project's execution and were analyzed from two main categories: Urban Culture and Diversity, and Intercultural Perspectives.A corpus of analysis was constituted by classroom activities and the journal interculturel made by the students.The research findings evidence that perceptions of intercultural relationships were expressed in different ways in the oral and written productions, and were emphasized by the participant students.The engagement of the associated teacher is also an indication of the importance of treating this theme in both initial and continuous teaching training
