Horizonte, traço, fantasma - Presenças-ausências

Recognizing the centrality of certain notions of presence to current theories and reflections in the field of the performing arts, this work describes and discusses paradoxical ways of relation between presence and absence in the work of three dance artists: Steve Paxton, Pina Bausch and Kazuo Ōno.Dialoguing with some theories of presence in performing arts and with philosophical and psychoanalytic discussions crossed by this theme and this notion, we find in the works of these three artists consistent examples that allow us to describe certain matrices of interconnection between presence and absence, which we have named as horizon, trace and phantom.The discussion of these matrices takes place through a sense of the paradox as an epistemological operator, starting mainly from a dialogue with paradoxical conceptions of subjectivity and art developed by authors such as Donald Winnicott and Jacques Rancière.From the three main points of discussion indicated, different implications and aspects of the works of these artists are examined, which lead us to certain generalizable positions about the place of presence in performing arts, as well as about certain fundamental aspects of poetics in contemporary dance and some epistemological, aesthetic, political and historiographic implications brought by the paradoxical notion of presence-absence that we seek to develop
