This article identifies five important lessons learned about strategies to minimise corruption from the work of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in New South Wales, Australia after first providing a context in which to understand these experiences. It begins with a description of the ICAC's history, role, structure, accountability mechanisms and the nature of its work. It then discusses the following five major lessons or strategies to minimise corruption, based on the ICAC's experiences: (1) focus on systems and ethical culture, rather than simply on the behaviour of individuals to prevent future corruption; (2) take a multistrategy approach to combating corruption; (3) work in collaboration with other agencies; (4) consider the employees’ perspective to inform corruption‐prevention strategies; and (5) monitor outcomes
