Adult children and partners provide essential care for aging populations in the US. Using group-based trajectory modelling, we examine trajectories of personal, chore, and financial care for aging parents and in-laws among n = 9,283 US households and associated household characteristics. We identify two distinct groups of caregiving trajectories: the “hands-on care dominant” group (75 percent) and the “high financial/increasing hands-on care” group (25 percent). Hispanic ethnicity, Black/other race, higher household income, employment, and having less than a high school education were associated with a higher probability of “high financial/increasing hands-on care.” Interventions and policies should address evolving, heterogeneous needs of families caring for aging parents
