Seebohm Rowntree (1871–1954) was a British pioneer of poverty research and industrial psychology, best known for his poverty surveys of the city of York. A businessman and social reformer from a notable Quaker family, Rowntree is often seen as an important figure in the history of empirical sociology, although many of his methods and approaches have since been subject to considerable challenge and debate.
