Passado Audível

Trata-se da introdução do livro O passado audível, de Jonathan Sterne, aqui traduzida pela primeira vez para o português. O livro propõe uma história da possibilidade da reprodução do som – por meio do telefone, do fonógrafo, do rádio e de outras tecnologias correlatas. Nele são examinadas as condições sociais e culturais que deram origem à reprodução do som e, por sua vez, como estas tecnologias cristalizaram e combinaram movimentos culturais mais amplos. O livro parte do pressuposto que som, audição e escuta são centrais para a vida cultural da modernidade, fundamentais para as modernas formas de conhecimento, cultura e organização social. Ele propõe, assim, uma alternativa à narrativa dominante segundo a qual, ao se tornar moderno, o mundo ocidental teria migrado de uma cultura da audição para uma cultura da visão
