The word «competencity» is increasingly used within the companies. This article proposes a sociological approach to competency which analyzed the changes affecting professional situations We base our argument on the following concepts : the «control of events», «communication at work» and «taking responsability», in order to show that the use of the word «competency» reveals emergence of a new social form of organization. At the same time however, this form is hardly recognized within the French system of professional relationships. This analisis suggests that competency model remains stifled by the traditional model of the work situation
