Over the course of a decade, Venezuela has experienced the largest migratory episode in the history of the Americas. During this period, more than eight million Venezuelans have left their country, often on foot, mainly heading to neighboring nations, although many have also migrated to the United States. This highly visible diaspora has often been the target of criticism from political elites, the media, and civilians, which associate it with criminal activity. However, these misperceptions obscure the structural factors that forced their departure, the obstacles they faced during their journey, and the challenges of rebuilding their lives from scratch in hostile environments. Based on oral testimonies from dozens of Venezuelan migrants collected in Colombia, Mexico, and the United States between 2023 and 2024, this article highlights these voices in order to shed light on the precarization of the Venezuelan diaspora by highlighting common experiences that most have endured upon leaving their country of origin and trying to forge a new life abroad
