    A recent article in The New England Quarterly1 points out that Henry Thoreau borrowed from the Harvard Library on March 4, 1856, the translation of Columella attributed to M. C. Curtius, published in 1745, and that he filled in with a pencil the omitted titles of three chapters, possibly signing his name in red crayon against one of these marginalia.
