  • Enhancing resistance training adherence in older adults with sarcopenia or osteoporosis

Open Access•Ching‐Huang Lin, Ching-Huang Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Sarcopenia and osteoporosis increase the likelihood of disability and caregiving burden. While progressive resistance training (PRT) is effective in mitigating these outcomes, patients often struggle to find suitable, long-term training facilities, making it difficult to adhere to exercise prescriptions. Objectives: This feasibility study aimed to familiarize patients with PRT through educational training by a geriatrician, enabling t…

  • Comparative Effectiveness of Focused Extracorporeal versus Radial Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis—Randomized Controlled Study

    Open Access•Nai-Yu Ko, Chih-Ning Chang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Both focused extracorporeal shockwave (f-ESWT) and radial extracorporeal shockwave therapy (r-ESWT) can alleviate symptoms in patients with knee osteoarthritis, but no trials have directly compared f-ESWT with r-ESWT for knee osteoarthritis. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of f-ESWT and r-ESWT on knee osteoarthritis. Forty-two patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to receive three sessions of either f-ES…

  • Stroke to Dementia Associated with Environmental Risks—A Semi-Markov Model

    Open Access•Kung‐Jeng Wang, Kung-Jeng Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Experiments showed that the proposed semi-Markovian model outperformed other benchmark diagnosis algorithms (i.e., linear regression, decision tree, random forest, and support vector machine), with a high R 2 of 90%. The proposed model also facilitated an accurate prognosis on the transition time of stroke from chronic diseases to dementias against environmental risks and rehabilitation factors
