  • Building community capacity to stimulate physical activity and dietary behavior in Dutch secondary schools

Open Access•Bonnie Maria van Dongen, Inge Maria de Vries et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background: Building community capacity in secondary schools is a promising strategy for the sustainable implementation of school-based health promotion. The Fit Lifestyle at School and at Home (FLASH) intervention explored how building community capacity works for the prevention of overweight following four strategies: leadership, participatory school culture, tailored health-promotion activities, and local networks. This study evaluates the int…

  • Prenatal Exposure to Perfluoroalkyl Substances and Behavioral Development in Children

Open Access•Ilona Quaak, Marijke de Cock et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

RESULTS from the current study show that prenatal exposure to PFOA was negatively related to externalizing behavior in boys. RESULTS were different for boys and girls, emphasizing that mechanisms at work might be sex-dependent. However, results should be interpreted with caution as the sample size was small

  • First Year Growth in Relation to Prenatal Exposure to Endocrine Disruptors — A Dutch Prospective Cohort Study

Open Access•Marijke de Cock, Michiel R De Boer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

Growth in the first year of life may already be predictive of obesity later in childhood. The objective was to assess the association between prenatal exposure to various endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and child growth during the first year. Dichloro-diphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), mono(2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl)phthalate (MECPP), mono(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl)phthalate (MEHHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl)phthalate (MEOHP), polychlorinated biphen…

  • View the label before you view the movie

Open Access•Willemijn M Vermeer, Ingrid HM Steenhuis et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Portion size and caloric GDA labelling were found to have no effect on soft drink intake. Further research among a larger group of participants combined with pricing strategies is required. The results of this study are relevant for the current public health debate on food labelling

  • Coevolution of Firm Absorptive Capacity and Knowledge Environment

    Frans A J Van Den Bosch, Henk W Volberda et al.•ARTICLE•Organization Science•1999

This paper advances the understanding of absorptive capacity for assimilating new knowledge as a mediating variable of organization adaptation. Many scholars suggest a firm's absorptive capacity plays a key role in the process of coevolution (Lewin et al., this issue). So far, most publications, in following Cohen and Levinthal (1990), have considered the level of prior related knowledge as the determinant of absorptive capacity. We suggest, howe…
