  • Assessing the economic effects of the covid-19 pandemic on Swedish shrimp fishers

Open Access•Davide Dutto, Krister Mars et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Policy•2023

This paper explores the effect of the perceived risk of the Swedish people of Covid-19 on daily auctioned shrimp prices from the start of the pandemic to the end of the year 2021. This topic is of interest to see whether the government intervention in the shrimp market to aid fishers with possible losses was justified. The Swedish shrimp fishery was for a long time managed by Regulated Open Access, but in January 1, 2017, it was transformed to a …

  • The Effects of Storage Technology and Training on Postharvest Losses, Practices, and Sales

Martin J Chegere, Håkan Eggert et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Development and Cultural…•2022•References: 30

The analysis is based on data collected by means of a randomized controlled trial in which farmers were randomized into one of three groups: a control group and two treatment groups. Farmers in the first treatment group r…

  • Jens Warming on Open Access, the Pigovian Tax, and Property Rights

    Håkan Eggert•ARTICLE•History of Political Economy•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 17

This article summarizes the contribution in fisheries economics by the Danish economist Jens Warming. Warming provides an early reference on the problem of open access, precedes Arthur Pigou in suggesting an optimal tax as a correction measure, which I refer to as a Warming landing tax in fisheries, and explains how property rights in fisheries will lead to maximized resource rent and prevent overfishing. What is missing in Warming's description …

  • Economic Valuation for Sustainable Development in the Swedish Coastal Zone

Tore Söderqvist, Håkan Eggert et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2005•Cited by: 3

The Swedish coastal zone is a scene of conflicting interests about various goods and services provided by nature. Open-access conditions and the public nature of many services increase the difficulty in resolving these conflicts. “Sustainability” is a vague but widely accepted guideline for finding reasonable trade-offs between different interests. The UN view of sustainable development suggests that coastal zone management should aim at a sustai…
