Post-traumatic stress disorder and memory function in older adults exposed to civilian conflict
Research with veterans, refugees and other trauma-exposed groups has identified a link between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and deficits in memory. This study sought to determine whether similar associations can be observed in a large, population-representative sample of older adults with high levels of exposure to conflict amongst older adults in Northern Ireland (NI). Using data from the Northern Ireland COhort for the Longitudinal stu…

Does volunteering reduce epigenetic age acceleration among retired and working older adults? Results from the Health and Retirement Study
Remarkable concordance in associations between epigenetic clocks and health behaviors across three countries
Student-led documentation of Covid-era education
This communication highlights the major actionable findings from 27 interviews of students in master’s programs that explore the human dimensions of oceans. The overall aim of the loosely structured conversations was to understand how COVID-19 impacted the interviewee’s educational experience, what was helpful to them, and how their experience could have been improved. From these voices, we developed 24 recommendations for universities and progra…
Social prescribing for older people and the role of the cultural sector during the Covid ‐19 pandemic
Older people's well-being can be bolstered by engaging with cultural activities and venues. They may be encouraged to try cultural offers by a link worker as part of social prescribing. However, the cultural sector, like all parts of life, was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; this has had implications for cultural offers available to link workers. A study was conducted to explore the views and experiences of link workers in using the cultural s…
Henri Dutilleux, haunted by Baudelaire
One of the leading French composers of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, Henri Dutilleux (1916–2013) set only one text by Baudelaire, though he said that the poet was the artist in any medium who had the strongest impact on him; indeed, he said that ‘Baudelaire continues to haunt me.’ This article explores how this ‘haunting’ affected Dutilleux’s oeuvre, from his cello concerto Tout un monde lointain... [‘A Far Distant World’] (1967…
Using an implementation science approach to implement and evaluate patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) initiatives in routine care settings
Multilevel IS frameworks are necessary for PROM/PREM implementation given the complexity. In cross-study comparisons, barriers to PROM/PREM implementation were consistent across patient populations and care settings, but enablers were context specific, suggesting the need for tailored implementation strategies based on clinic resources. Theoretically guided studies are needed to clarify how, why, and in what circumstances IS principles lead to su…

The emergence of obesity among Australian Aboriginal children
Obesity is of significant and growing concern among Australian Aboriginal children, and is linked to patterns of child growth. The aim of this paper is to show diverse patterns of growth and obesity emergence among Australian Aboriginal children using historical anthropometric data. Child growth in height, weight and body mass index (BMI) is reanalysed for children aged 2 to 19 years in Australian Aboriginal communities spanning two distinct time…

Because It Is Gone Now
The End — Or Is It? Dutilleux's Revisions
Henri Dutilleux's manuscripts, most of which are now owned by the Paul Sacher Stiftung, are wonderful examples of calligraphy. The care Dutilleux takes with his manuscripts means that little information about his working methods can be gleaned from his final drafts. However, there is one notable exception to this general statement: Dutilleux often rewrites the final bars of his works, and even his most recent manuscripts show that he still finds …

When is a book not a book? When it's a series of conference papers—or, in the case of the present volume, a mixture of conversations, conference papers, catalogues, and sundry appendices. This publication stems (at least in part) from a conference given in Villecroze, in the south of France, in October 2004, one of a number of events commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Nadia Boulanger's death. According to Alexandra Laederich, who organ…
Sense of Motion, Senses of Self
In spite of growing interest in the anthropology of the senses, the majority of literature has focused on the Euro-American 'classic five' senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch at the expense of other equally viable senses such as heat, pain, and kinaesthesia. Through ethnographic description of a professional dance training programme in which I actively participated, I argue that developing a heightened sense of kinaesthesia (felt bodi…
