Side by side, the actions of these miracle narrations are supported by what Alfonso …

    Joseph T Snow, Joseph Τ Snow•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Spanish Studies•2018

The importance and influence of a name is discussed, in the case of the title of a literary work, for its impact on the reception the work meets with, and the meanings it holds for readers. The history of the successive titles its publishers have given to the Spanish classic, Comedia/Tragicomedia de Calisto y Melibea (1499 and after), is the frame for a fresh reading of the role of Melibea, the female protagonist in the work—which has been titled…

    Joseph T Snow, Joseph Τ Snow•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Spanish Studies•2015

HE popularity of the characters created by Fernando de Rojas in La Celestina, established at the outset with the immediate and widespread acceptance of the work, seems only to have increased with time. This phenomenon is partly attributable to the fact that there were already some eighty editions circulating prior to 1640 but even more properly assignable, of course, to the living, three-dimensional qualities each of them is endowed with by Rojas…
