Open Access•M Rubini, Alessandra Roncarati et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Language and Social…•2017•Cited by: 6•References: 45

This study examines the negative stereotypes of the category of women and their subcategories through the language of insults. Participants produced a list of epithets induced by the same hypothetical scenario in which the protagonist was presented either as a "prostitute" or as a "girl" (i.e., nonprostitute). Findings showed that the prostitute was addressed with taboo-related insults exaggerating sexual behavior, whereas the girl was mainly giv…

  • Changing stereotype content through mental imagery

    Open Access•Maria Brambilla, Marcella Ravenna et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2011•Cited by: 13•References: 8

Research has recently shown that imagining intergroup contact can reduce hostility toward outgroups. The present experiment explored whether imagining intergroup contact leads to more positive perceptions of outgroups differentially stereotyped on the two fundamental dimensions of social perception, namely warmth and competence. Depending on the experimental condition, participants ( N = 123) imagined either an intergroup encounter with an outgro…

Maria Brambilla, Andrea Carnaghi et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychology•2011•Cited by: 7•References: 44

Research on perceptions of homosexuals implicitly assumes that individuals think about lesbians as an undifferentiated group. By contrast, this paper investigated the stereotypes of the overall category as well as of different subgroups of lesbians within the frame of the stereotype content model (SCM). Participants (N = 70) rated the overall category and four subgroups on perceived warmth, competence, status, and interdependence (cooperative vs.…

    Open Access•Marcella Ravenna, Erik Hölzl et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community & Applied…•2002•References: 3

In a residential community treatment setting, moods and emotional states of drug addicts were explored over a 1‐year period. The specific form of treatment of heroin addiction employed in the communities is based on the importance of interpersonal relationships for psychosocial transition. Twenty‐nine participants reported current mood, emotions, attributions, and motive activation using a time‐sampling diary for 2 weeks at the beginning of the t…

    Open Access•Marcella Ravenna, Erik Hölzl et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community & Applied…•2001•References: 2

The process of becoming drug free is viewed as a psychosocial transition in the life of drug addicts. A specific form of treatment of heroin addiction within residential communities is based on the importance of interpersonal relationships for change. Well‐being of 65 drug addicts during the first 2 weeks in a residential community is explored using a time‐sampling diary which was completed four times a day. The influence of subjects' history, si…
