Who seeks care after intimate partner violence in Cameroon? sociodemographic differences between a hospital and population sample of women
Introduction Little is known regarding health care seeking behaviors of women in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Cameroon, who experience violence. The proportion of women who experienced violence enrolled in the Cameroon Trauma Registry (CTR) is lower than expected. Methods We concatenated the databases from the October 2017-December 2020 CTR and 2018 Cameroon Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) into a singular database for cross-sectional stud…

As our mailboxes attest daily, social change requires financial support. But while small contributions from ordinary donors are always welcome, it is million-dollar checks that get the job done. Historian Joan Marie Johnson, in Funding Feminism: Monied Women, Philanthropy, and the Women’s Movement, 1870–1967, catalogues the independent-minded heiresses who bankrolled key aspects of American women’s emancipation. She focuses on the most generous i…

The State of Research on Pacific Northwest Women Karen J. Blair (bio) I began my investigation of the scholarly literature on Pacific Northwest women's history when I moved to Seattle to teach local women's history in 1979 and immediately engaged in a search to locate secondary sources to bolster my students' and my own research. I was discouraged to learn that, compared to the American South, New England, or the Southwest, the studies in this re…

The Limits of Sisterhood
A modest, two-story wooden structure has stood on the University of Washington campus in Seattle since 1909. Known as the Woman's Building, it served to nurture cooperation among all women at the Alaska-YukonPacific Exposition and then, more importantly, between female students at the school and the community's clubwomen.
