  • Les nouvelles technologies frontalières

    Petra Molnar, Isabelle Saint-Saëns•ARTICLE•Plein droit•2024

Border wall between US and Mexico, February 2022, Petra Molnar Like a wound in the landscape, the rusty border wall cuts along Arizona''s El Camino Del Diablo, the Devil's Highway. Once the pride and joy of the Trump Administration, this wall is once again the epicentre of a growing political row. President Biden's May 2023 repeal of the Trump Administration's Covid-era Title 42 regulation comes with the introduction of hardline new policies prev…

  • Discretion to Deport

    Open Access•Petra Molnar•ARTICLE•Refuge Canada s Journal on Refuge•2017

Detention and deportation of migrants is a clear performance of state sovereignty that relies on discretionary practices and policies. The ongoing conflict in Syria highlights the strain and social disruption in neighbouring countries that host the majority of the world’s Syrian refugees. This article looks at Jordan’s policies to detain and deport Syrian refugees. Documented reasons for detention and deportations include work permit infractions,…

  • Everyday Injustices

    Stephanie J Silverman, Petra Molnar•ARTICLE•Refugee Survey Quarterly•2016•Cited by: 9

The growing Canadian immigration detention system touches upon the lives of thousands of people daily. However, despite significant legal and normative problems, the Canadian detention system seems to be escaping sustained scrutiny. To address this gap, we employ the rubric of “access to justice” to refocus on inequalities being reproduced in the legal system that impede fair, unprejudiced, and non-arbitrary treatment for minorities and vulnerabl…

  • The “Bogus” Refugee

Open Access•Petra Molnar, Petra Molnar Diop•ARTICLE•Refuge Canada s Journal on Refuge•2014•Cited by: 5

The passage of Bill C-31 into Canadian law in June 2012 is part of a discourse created around refugees by the current Government of Canada. Refugees are divided into “good and proper” refugees who live in camps abroad, and the “ fraudulent and bogus” refugees who claim asylum at the Canadian border. The new act, Bill C-31 or Protecting Canada’s Immigration System Act, is analyzed with respect to changes that will result in the systematic exclusio…

  • Osteoarthritis and activity-an analysis of the relationship between eburnation, Musculoskeletal Stress Markers (MSM) and age in two Neolithic hunter-gatherer populations from Gotland, Sweden

    Open Access•Petra Molnar, Torbjörn Ahlström et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2011•Cited by: 26•References: 22

The occurrence of osteoarthritis (OA) as an indicator of physical activity was explored in two Middle Neolithic samples from Gotland (c. 3400-2300 BC) in the Baltic Sea: Ajvide (n = 46) and Västerbjers (n = 32). The difficulty in diagnosing OA is recognised and only eburnation was used as a definite criterion for OA. The relationship between eburnation lesions and Musculoskeletal Stress Markers (MSM) was investigated particularly in relation to a…

  • Dental wear and oral pathology

    Open Access•Petra Molnar•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2008•Cited by: 26•References: 26

Atypical wear and oral lesions were studied in the dental remains from the Middle Neolithic Pitted Ware Culture site Ajvide on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Teeth ( n = 764) from 17 males and 11 females were examined microscopically to document unusual wear, assess wear patterns and oral lesions as evidence of habitual behavior, and determine their effect on the oral health of this population. Five atypical wear types were observed: oc…

The skeletal remains from the Middle Neolithic (2750-2300 BC) burial ground at Ajvide, Gotland, are analyzed in order to explore musculoskeletal patterns and to attempt to trace general as well as three specific prehistoric activities (archery, harpooning, and kayaking) that are likely to have been performed in this marine setting of fishing, hunting, and gathering. Scoring of muscular and ligament attachments is performed using the scoring metho…
