Safed (Zefat), Jerusalem Street: Crusader-Period Remains in the Vicinity of the Castle (pp. 45*–84*)
The excavation on Jerusalem Street, Safed uncovered remains that once occupied a terrace on the western slope of a hill, below the thirteenth-century medieval castle. A detailed picture of the Crusader period emerged from the synthesis of stratigraphic analyses, Carbon-14 dating and the study of the various finds, i.e., pottery, metal objects, glass, coins and faunal remains. The pottery and glass finds date to the twelfth and thirteenth centurie…
Remains from the Late Roman to the Mamluk Periods on Djabsha Street, Old City, Jerusalem: An Early Islamic-Period Fuller’s Workshop? (pp. 127–146)
A limited salvage excavationon Djabsha Street in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem provided evidence for the occupation of the site from the end of the Roman through the Mamluk period. Asmall workshop was established at the site toward the end of the Byzantine, or perhaps at the beginning of the Early Islamic period. It is assumed that this installation was linked with the processing of skins or cloth (tannery, laundry, dyer, etc…
A Mamluk-Period Mausoleum near the ‘Sleepy Spring’ at Safed (Ẓefat)
A trial excavation near the ‘Sleepy Spring’ fountain in Safed revealed the remains of a mausoleum, which was built during the late Mamluk period and remained in use until the early twentieth century. Three late Ottoman-period tombs found within the vaulted structure, and Ottoman-period cist tombs adjacent to the building, attest to the burial function of the site. No pre-Mamluk-period finds were uncovered at the site, indicating that the earliest…
Belvoir through textual sources: Functions of a Frankish castle in the Holy Land
Conceived as an introduction to the historical and archaeological study of the castle of Belvoir by a Franco-Israeli mission (2013-2020), this article succinctly presents the chronology of the site through textual sources before asking the question of the functions of a Frankish fortification in the Holy Land. If a military vocation of such a structure remains pertinent, so is the vocation of a center of power

Onderzoeksmethode gebruikt in Hénin-Beaumont (Pas-de-Calais).
