Existing hypotheses about immigrant policy predictors were also reevaluated. Method We coded all immigration bills enacted for years 2005–2012 and fit multilevel, mixed…

  • Theoretical Explanations Amid Social Change

    Open Access•N Davis, Shannon N Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2014•Cited by: 5•References: 17

Three main theoretical frameworks are used to explain the division of household labor: time availability, relative resources, and gender ideology. Examining 162 regression equations from 62 articles published from 1975 to 2012, we examine whether there has been a change in the likelihood that the three theoretical frameworks find empirical support over time. We find no evidence to suggest that there has been a declining significance of the three …

    Zachary W Brewster, Jeremiah B Wills•ARTICLE•Sociological Focus•2013•Cited by: 7•References: 10

Previous research examining the intergenerational transmission of gender ideology focuses generally on the influence of mothers' beliefs. This article extends the understanding of gender ideology construction and transmission in two important ways. Utilizing data from the child sample of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (N = 206), we examine the construction of adolescent gender ideology via mothers' and fathers' gender beliefs. Fur…

Geersteen (2003) provides an excellent review of this literature and suggests that one way to distinguish between lowerand higher-level thinking is based on the level of abstraction. • The Visibility of Feminist Thought in Family Studies

    Open Access•Jeremiah B Wills, Barbara J Risman•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2006•Cited by: 4•References: 22

We assessed feminist visibility in family journals by tallying the feminist content of articles in Journal of Marriage and Family, Journal of Family Issues, and Family Relations. There was an increase in feminist visibility from 1972 to 1992, at which point the growth of visibility stalled. From 1992 to 2002, almost 1 out of 4 articles appeared to be influenced, at least minimally, by feminist scholarship when including in our tally a measure of …
