  • The Meaning of 'Intelligence' to Lebanese Teachers

    The question of the meaning of intelligent for English-speaking Lebanese teachers was explored by having twelve teachers rate students in nine classes on eleven scales, including a scale of intelligence. A factor analysis was made of these ratings.     In the study reported here the authors attempted to discover whether residence in an authoritarian culture leads to greater acceptance of the "authoritarian" items of the California scale and to test the validity of that scale. The results tend to confirm claims for the validity of the F scale but do not show a positive correlation between authoritarianism and politico-economic conservation

    An attempt is made to determine whether the strong anti-Negro feelings in the Deep South is attributable to the prevalence of generally anti-democratic, ethnocentric persons in that area. It was found that those persons who were favorable toward the Negro were generally favorable toward other groups, and those persons who had unfavorable attitudes toward Jews and other ethnic groups were generally anti-Negro.
