    In 1918, John Benton Hart of Colorado reminisced about the “Old West” to his son Harry, an aspiring writer. He shared vivid stories about his military adventures as a blue-clad trooper in the Eleventh Kansas Cavalry, fighting in Missouri during the Civil War and on the western frontier during the Reconstruction era.
