  • Nonuniform Distribution of the Ecliptical Longitudes of Sun and Moon at the Birthdays of Top Scientists

  • Nonuniform Distribution of the Ecliptical Longitudes of Sun and Moon at the Birthdays of Top Scientists

    Open Access•JOS VERHULST•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1999

The distribution of the ecliptical longitudes of sun and moon at the dates of birth of top scientists is not uniform, as would be expected from an astronomical viewpoint. The size of the effect is much larger than seasonal fluctuations in the birth distributions for the general population or for eminent people

  • Circaseptennian (about 7-Year) Periodicity in the Distribution of Birth Years of Nobel Laureates for Physics

    Open Access•JOS VERHULST, Patrick Onghena•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

The distribution of birth years for Nobel physicists shows a circaseptennian (about 7-year) periodicity. This observation extends an earlier observation of a circaseptennian pattern in the distribution of birth years for early quantum physicists. In both categories, birth rate tends to maximize in years belonging to the (7n + 4) phase

  • Cercaseptennian (About 7-Year) Periodicity in the Distribution of Birth Years of Nobel Laureates for Physics

  • Periodic Berth-Year Pattern of the Founders of Statistical Sciences

    Open Access•JOS VERHULST, Patrick Onghena•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

The distribution of the birth-years of 19 founders of statistical sciences, as reported in a recent book on the history of statistics, shows a circaseptennian (approximately 7-year) periodicity. A second sample of 31 statistical pioneers, extracted from the Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences, supports the first observation. Up to the end of the 19th century, founders of statistical sciences tended to be born in years belonging to the 7 n+2 phas…

  • Periodic Berth-Year Pattern of the Founders of Quantum Physics

    Open Access•JOS VERHULST, Patrick Onghena•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1996

The distribution of birth years of physicists involved in the development of quantum mechanics shows a striking periodicity, with a period of about seven years. Although an obvious explanation of the phenomenon is lacking, a preference of humans to cooperate with persons who differ from their own age by an integral multiple of about 7 years could be a possible mediating mechanism
