  • Satellites may underestimate rice residue and associated burning emissions in Vietnam

Open Access•Kristofer Lasko, Krishna Prasad Vadrevu et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2017

In this study, we estimate rice residue, associated burning emissions, and compare results with existing emissions inventories employing a bottom-up approach. We first estimated field-level post-harvest rice residues, including separate fuel-loading factors for rice straw and rice stubble. Results suggested fuel-loading factors of 0.27 kg m -2 (±0.033), 0.61 kg m -2 (±0.076), and 0.88 kg m -2 (±0.083) for rice straw, stubble, and total post-harve…

  • Planning and Providing End‐of‐life Care in Rural Areas

Open Access•Donna M Wilson, Christopher Justice et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Rural Health•2006

Context: Approximately 20% of North Americans and 25% of Europeans reside in rural areas. Planning and providing end‐of‐life (EOL) care in rural areas presents some unique challenges. Purpose: In order to understand these challenges, and other important issues or circumstances, a literature search was conducted to assess the state of science on rural EOL care. Methods: The following databases were searched for articles published from 1988 through…

  • Carbon Emissions and Sequestration Potential of Central African Ecosystems

Quanfa Zhang, Christopher Justice et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2001•References: 28

Joint Implementation under the Climate Change Convention and Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol require a scientific understanding of current carbon stocks, fluxes, and sequestration potential, especially in tropical ecosystems where there are large carbon reservoirs, significant carbon emissions, and large land areas available for reforestation. Central Africa contains 10% of the world's remaining tropical moist forests and has re…
