The transition from terrestrial radio to audio-on-demand: Analyzing audience autonomy and emotional connection among urban youth in Surabaya
The rapid evolution of the digital media landscape has fundamentally restructured audio consumption, shifting the paradigm from linear broadcasting to asynchronous, platform-based environments such as Spotify and YouTube Music. This study investigates the transition among urban youth in Surabaya, Indonesia, from terrestrial radio to audio-on-demand (AoD), focusing on the critical tension between audience autonomy and emotional connection. Utilizi…
Visual accountability and digital populism: The “digital ombudsman” model in hypermedia-based governance
Background Hypermedia transforms local political communication into interactive capital branding. In Indonesia, local figures use YouTube to bypass bureaucracy. Objective This study investigates the “Digital Ombudsman” model of the Surabaya Vice Mayor through Armuji's YouTube channel (@Cakj1). The concepts of digital conflict mediation and the creation of visual accountability are examined. Methodology This study employs qualitative netnography w…
Contact at the treetops: Syntactic borrowing and syntactic complexity
We examine the function and structure of ki-clauses in Modern Greek dialects of Trabzon (Romeyka), Silli, Cappadocia and Pharasa. We demonstrate that ki, transferred from Turkish, has been integrated into the clausal spine of these dialects in JudgeP (Krifka, 2023), whereby the speaker renders their private epistemic judgement regarding an assertion in its scope. In the source language, Turkish, ki spells-out not only Judge head—the lowest head i…
The emergence of clausal nominalizations in Laz
This paper presents a survey of complementation strategies that are employed in Pazar and Ardesheni dialects of Laz, an endangered South Caucasian language that has been in contact with Turkish for decades. Our survey reveals strong signatures of contact in that nominalization patterns not present in cognate systems but present in Turkish seem to have been transferred into Laz. An intriguing asymmetry concerning the two dialects is that the Turki…
Reciprocals in Turkish
This paper discusses various reciprocalization strategies in Turkish, including lexical, pronominal, and verbal reciprocals, as well as the collective and discontinuous constructions that appear with symmetric predicates. We propose that there are two distinct sources of reciprocity in Turkish: symmetry and distributivity-reciprocity. Lexical and verbal reciprocals are established via symmetry, whereas pronominal reciprocals are formed via distri…
How can a language have double-passives but lack antipassives
Passivization in Turkish may target both internal and external argument positions, for passives of unaccusatives, unergatives and transitives are possible in the language. Interestingly, Turkish also has double passives where the passive morpheme is iterated and both argument positions are saturated. However, the language does not allow for antipassives, where only the internal argument position of a transitive predicate is saturated by passiviza…
A complexity hierarchy-based solution to the clausal subject puzzle in Turkish
This paper presents a novel analysis of subordinate clause structure in Turkish, focusing on subordinations formed by the following three suffixes: the infinitival -mA(K) with tenseless and (ir)realis usages, and -DIK/ -(y)ACAK with a (non)future temporal specification. We present a classification aligning each form on the Implicational Complementation Hierarchy (ICH) proposed in Wurmbrand and Lohninger (2020), which provides a solution for the s…
Transitive Unergatives in Pazar Laz
The aim of this study is to show that all unergatives in Pazar Laz involve an overtly filled object position and behave simply on a par with regular transitives, as the availability of an initiator is strictly dependent on the availability of an undergoer argument in line with the Neo-Burzio Dependency proposed for Georgian by Nash (2018). We will show that differently from Georgian, in Pazar Laz the availability of an initator and that of an und…
Pazar Laz as a weak verb-framed language
Pazar Laz (pl) has a rich set of spatial prefixes, which encode path information as separate morphemes. However, unlike satellite-framed languages, plspatial prefixes are incompatible with manner of motion verbs, which do not inherently encode path information, but they can only be used with directed motion verbs where the path information is available in the lexical semantics of the verb. Given this pattern, complementingAcedo-Matellán (2016)'s c…

The Logophoric Complementizer in Laz
This study investigates the two phenomena associated with the logophoric complementizer in Laz which is used to introduce the propositional complements of speech and thought predicates, namely the allomorphy based on the person and number features of the matrix subject and the indexical shifting observed for the pronominal elements in the embedded clause. We will argue that the allomorphy is the morphological reflection of the identity of the ext…
Transitivity in Pazar Laz
This study argues that in Pazar Laz, all verb types have a transitive syntax involving both an initiator and an undergoer. Thus, there are no truly intransitive verbs, such as unaccusatives and unergatives. All eventualities are argued to involve a relationship between an initiator and an undergoer and are strictly mapped onto syntax transitively in Pazar Laz
Postverbal Constituents in SOV Languages
Based on the asymmetry between Khalkha and Uyghur, this paper argues that certain postverbal constituents (PVC) in discourse-configurational SOV languages are derived via rightward movement. Rightward movement should not be banned but parameterized based on the EPP effects observed in such languages. EPP in discourse-configurational languages is dependent on features related to information structure, such as topic and focus, (Miyagawa 2004), and …
Public Debt Managers' Behaviour Interactions with Macro Policies
Nous étudions l’évolution de la gestion de la dette publique, le comportement des gestionnaires de la dette publique et leur interaction avec la stabilité financière et la politique monétaire. Nous nous centrons sur la zone euro. L’estimation d’une fonction de réaction des gestionnaires de la dette montre que ces derniers réagissent aux variables suivantes : le niveau des taux d’intérêt dans le cadre de leur stratégie de minimisation du coût de l…
