  • Epidemiologic Study of Intensive Care Unit Admission in South Korea: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study from 2010 to 2019

    Open Access•Tak-Kyu Oh, Hyeong-Geun Kim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

We aimed to investigate the trends of intensive care unit (ICU) admissions in South Korea from 2010 to 2019. We included all adult patients (≥20 years old) who were admitted to the ICU during hospitalization from 2010 to 2019 in South Korea. There were 3,517,423 ICU admissions of 2,461,848 adult patients. Of the ICU admission cases, 66.8% (2,347,976/3,517,423) were surgery-associated admissions, and the rate of in-hospital mortality after ICU adm…

  • Prior Antiplatelet Therapy and Stroke Risk in Critically Ill Patients Undergoing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Open Access•Tak Kyu Oh, Tak-Kyu Oh et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

We aimed to investigate whether prior exposure to antiplatelet therapy (anti-PLT) was associated with stroke incidence after the initiation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. We conducted a population-based cohort study based on health records obtained from the National Health Insurance Service database in South Korea. Adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years) who underwent ECMO therapy in the intensive care unit during 2009-2018 were …

  • Musculoskeletal Disorders, Pain Medication, and in-Hospital Mortality among Patients with Covid-19 in South Korea: A Population-Based Cohort Study

Open Access•Tak Kyu Oh, Tak-Kyu Oh et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

We aimed to investigate whether comorbid musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)s and pain medication use was associated with in-hospital mortality among patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Adult patients (≥20 years old) with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis until 5 June 2020 were included in this study, based on the National Health Insurance COVID-19 database in South Korea. MSDs included osteoarthritis, neck pain, lower back pain, rheumatoi…

  • Socioeconomic disparity and the risk of contracting Covid-19 in South Korea: An NHIS-Covid-19 database cohort study

Open Access•Tak Kyu Oh, Jae-Wook Choi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Lower socioeconomic status was associated with a higher risk of contracting COVID-19 in South Korea. This association was more evident in the older population (age ≥ 60 years), whereas both lower and higher socioeconomic statuses were associated with higher risks of contracting COVID-19 in the young adult population (in the 20-39 year age group). Strategies for the prevention of COVID-19 should focus on individuals of lower socioeconomic status a…

  • Association of Economic Status and Mortality in Patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Open Access•Tak Kyu Oh, In‐Ae Song et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The high cost of treatment for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a concern for healthcare systems, while the impact of patients' socio-economic status on the risk of ARDS-associated mortality remains controversial. This study investigated associations between patients' income at the time of ARDS diagnosis and ARDS-specific mortality rate after treatment initiation. Data from records provided by the National Health Insurance Service of…
