  • Co‐Producing Personalised Discharge Planning

Open Access•Kathryn McEwan, Tom Sanders et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2025

BACKGROUND: Informal caregivers are often expected to support patients transitioning from hospital to home and yet are routinely overlooked in discharge planning. This gap can leave caregivers unprepared and unsupported, contributing to avoidable complications and distress. In response, we co-designed a personalised discharge planning toolkit to support meaningful conversations between hospital staff and informal caregivers. METHODS: Using a part…

  • Normalisation and equity of referral to the NHS Low Calorie Diet programme pilot; a qualitative evaluation of the experiences of health care staff

Open Access•Kevin J Drew, Catherine Homer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Referral generation had not yet been consistently normalised into routine care, yet our findings suggest that the LCD programme runs the risk of normalising an inequitable referral process. Inequalities remain a significant challenge, and the adoption of an equitable referral process, normalised at a service delivery level, has the capacity to contribute to the improvement of health inequalities

  • “In Truth, They Are My Masters”

    Open Access•Susan Jones, Susan E Jones•ARTICLE•Humanities•2022

Thomas Walton (known as Purser) and Clinton Atkinson (known as Clinton) were hanged for piracy in 1583. This article examines a range of texts relating to Purser and Clinton, including court depositions, plays and ballads, to consider the ways in which their lives and deaths were depicted and discover what this might tell us about contemporary attitudes towards piracy. Purser and Clinton were based in Dorset where the boundaries delineating pirac…

  • Supporting mental health service users to stop smoking

Open Access•Susan Jones, Susan E Jones et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Some progress has been made in terms of changing an entrenched, smoking culture into one that is smokefree on Trust sites across the region. Perseverance and resourcing over the long-term is required to establish a non-smoking culture in on-site provision of mental health services

  • Acceptability of a cessation intervention for pregnant smokers

Open Access•Susan Jones, Susan E Jones et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The babyClear© package was acceptable to pregnant smokers interviewed during and shortly after pregnancy and, in some cases, to promote quitting. However, some contexts were more optimal than others, leading to variation in acceptability overall

  • Evaluation of a complex healthcare intervention to increase smoking cessation in pregnant women

Ruth Bell, Svetlana V Glinianaia et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2017

The implementation of a system-wide complex healthcare intervention was associated with significant increase in rates of quitting by delivery

  • Solidarity, Society and the Welfare State in the United Kingdom

Open Access•Rachelle Ashcroft, Richard E Ashcroft et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care Analysis•2000

  • Characteristics of staffed community housing services for people with learning disabilities

Open Access•Jonathan Perry, Kathy Lowe et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2000•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Within the staffed housing model relatively little is known about the characteristics of different types of provider agency. Data on size, homeliness and physical integration of settings, organisational culture, working methods, staffing levels and resident characteristics, were collected on a stratified random sample of provision in South-West England and Wales. Provider agencies did not differ significantly on three of the four variables relati…
