  • Earnings Gaps between Native-Born Canadians and Immigrants

Benoit Dostie, Jiang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2022•Cited by: 1

A growing literature shows that earnings differentials are explained in part by the fact that workers from different groups sort differently into high-paying and low-paying firms or are paid differently within the same firm. In this article, we explore whether any differences exist in how those two different channels contribute to earnings differentials between immigrants and native-born Canadians in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, an…

  • Performance Pay and Wage Inequality

Thomas Lemieux, W Bentley Macleod et al.•ARTICLE•The Quarterly Journal of Economics•2009

An increasing fraction of jobs in the U.S. labor market explicitly pay workers for their performance using bonus pay, commissions, or piece-rate contracts. Using data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, we show that compensation in performance-pay jobs is more closely tied to both observed and unobserved productive characteristics of workers than compensation in non-performance-pay jobs. We also find that the return to these productive chara…

  • Chaise-Dieu (La) (Haute-Loire).

  • Puy-en-velay (Le) (Haute-Loire). 22, boulevard Saint-Louis

  • Methods of Pay and Earnings

    Open Access•Daniel Parent•ARTICLE•Industrial and Labor Relations…•1999•Cited by: 13•References: 20

Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (1988-90), the author investigates the relationship between methods of pay, including piece rates and bonuses, and the level and variance of wages. Among men, piece rate workers earned a premium compared to other workers, but the evidence on bonuses is mixed. The author finds evidence that female piece rate workers earned more than other female workers once a control variable for the prese…
