Brown v. Board of Education, Topeka, Kansas is arguably the most significant ruling made by the United States Supreme Court in the twentieth century. By overturning the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson decision that legalized segregation, Brown constitutionally undermined an ideology of white supremacy instituted by economic, political, and social means.
