The roles of motivational interviewing and self‐efficacy on outcomes and cost‐effectiveness of a community‐based exercise intervention for inactive middle‐older aged adults
Increasing physical activity (PA) among inactive middle-older aged adults in rural communities is challenging. This study investigates the efficacy of a PA intervention supporting inactive adults in rural/semirural communities. Inactive participants enrolled on either a single signposting session (n =427) or a multisession pathway combining signposting with motivational interviewing (MI; n = 478). Class in Archaic Greece
Archaic Greece saw a number of decisive changes, including the emergence of the polis, the foundation of Greek settlements throughout the Mediterranean and Black Sea, the organisation of panhellenic games and festivals, the rise of tyranny, the invention of literacy, the composition of the Homeric epics and the emergence of lyric poetry, the development of monumental architecture and large scale sculpture, and the establishment of 'democracy'. Aeschylus' geographic imagination
After reviewing various scholars’ accounts of geographical references in Aeschylus’ plays, some seeing exoticism, some serious geographic knowledge reflecting Ionian science, some focused exclusively on the opposition of Greek and barbarian, I argue that regardless of what one might posit as Aeschylus’ intentions, the sheer quantity of geographic allusions are best understood as contributing to the formation of an imperialist consciousness by rep…
The Conquest Continues
The Road to Londonderry, April–October 1968
In the six months covered by this chapter the political atmosphere swung from the optimism and complacency surrounding O’Neill’s fifth anniversary in office to the sudden, and dangerous, polarisation of the two communities on the eve of the Londonderry riot. Many of the ingredients for the 25 years of violence which followed can be discerned during those months. Wilson himself claims to have sensed the unreality of this period. He wrote later, ‘T…

Cicero and the Rhetoric of Imperialism
This paper examines Cicero's relation to Roman imperialism by focusing primarily upon his speech in behalf of Pompey's special command against Mithradates (Pro lege Manilia, 66 BC) and his speech in favor of extending Caesar's command in Gaul (De provinciis consularibus, 56 BC). These two moments in which Cicero contributed substantially to the empowerment of the two great imperialist generais who destroyed the Republic suggest the need to reasse…
