Sexual racism and mental health among Asian American sexual minority men
012; elevated internalized racism amplified the association between sexual racism and depressive symptoms. Our study supplies evidence of the connections between sexual racism, internalized racism, and poorer mental health. These findings can inform multi-level prevention and intervention efforts to minimize experiences of sexual racism and mitigate its negative effects among ASMM.
Correlates of PrEP Cascade Outcomes Among Immigrant Latino Men Who Have Sex with Men
HIV disparities among U.S. Latino men who have sex with men (LMSM) persist alongside lower PrEP use. We examined correlates of PrEP cascade outcomes among 287 cisgender immigrant LMSM. PrEP conspiracy beliefs were negatively associated with HIV testing (OR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.59–0.99, p =.04); knowing a PrEP user was positively associated (OR = 3.09, CI: 1.81–5.28, p p p =.02), multiple sexual partners (belief: OR = 2.06, CI: 1.02–4.16, p =.04; pla…

Randomized Controlled Trial of a Group Cognitive Behavior Therapy HIV Prevention Intervention for Immigrant Latino Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men who Have Sex with Men
Latino gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (LGBMSM) are disproportionally affected by HIV in the U.S. We tested a culturally tailored community-based group HIV prevention intervention ("Siempre Seguiré") for immigrant LGBMSM that uses cognitive behavior therapy to address coping with intersectional stigma and medical mistrust. A total of 289 immigrant LGBMSM were randomized (144 control, 145 intervention) and completed surveys at b…
Pain Severity and Experiences with Pain Management Predict Alcohol Use Among Men Who Have Sex with Men Living with HIV
The experience of misgendering among transgender and gender diverse people
Misgendering is a common and distressing experience for many transgender (trans) and gender diverse people. Although existing research (e.g., McLemore, 2015, 2018) suggests that being misgendered is negatively associated with mental health, the empirical literature on misgendering is currently nascent. In the present study, we examined how trans and gender diverse people experienced and negotiated being misgendered. Guided by a constructivist gro…

PrEP uptake as a social movement among gay and bisexual men
Despite PrEP's effectiveness as an HIV prevention intervention, uptake among gay and bisexual men remains low. Historical involvement in AIDS activism may reveal important ways of mobilising gay and bisexual men to increase PrEP uptake. Data come from a qualitative study to understand New York City gay and bisexual men's experiences with PrEP. Informed by a constructivist grounded theory approach, we assessed ways in which gay and bisexual men's …

How Has HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Changed Sex? A Review of Research in a New Era of Bio-behavioral HIV Prevention
In 2012, the U.S. FDA approved the first drug for use as HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), which is nearly 99% effective when taken as prescribed. Although the manifest function of PrEP is to prevent HIV infection in the event of exposure, the drug has also had a significant impact on various facets of sexuality. In this review, we focus on research that emerged in the near decade since PrEP's approval, with a specific focus on the ways in whi…

However, few research tools are available to practitioners, educators, or researchers to understand adolescent females' experiences of their sexual development. This mixed-methods study presents a novel quantitative measure of adolescent females’ sexuality-related stress and social support experiences, includin…
Sexuality and gender affirmation in transgender men who have sex with cisgender men
Background: Transgender men who have sex with men (trans MSM) are underrepresented in the behavioral and social sciences literature, especially in research concerning sexual health. The available literature indicates that, in relation to gender affirmation (sometimes called “transition”), some trans men may experience shifts in their sexual attractions and the identity labels that they use to describe their sexual orientation. Most commonly, this…
