  • Context Effects in Ethical Evaluations

    Open Access•Paul R Hagner, Donna M Randall et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•1996

  • Racial Differences in Political Conceptualization

    Open Access•Paul R Hagner, John C Pierce•ARTICLE•The Western Political Quarterly•1984•References: 17

Social scientists confronted host of questions arising out of that turmoil, some of the most significant of which concerned differences in attitudes. One focus was cynicism and support. In the late 1960s black children exhibited greater cynicism than did white children (Abramson 1977), pattern shared by adults (Miller 1974). Similarly, Aberbach and Walker found series of differences in orient…

    Paul R Hagner, John C Pierce•ARTICLE•The Journal of Politics•1982•Cited by: 32

Since The American Voter introduced the "levels of conceptualization" measure, its theoretical potential has been recognized and it has been used widely as an indicator of public evaluations of politics. However, replication and extension of the measure have been limited. If it is to have utility in the study of change in mass political thinking, its validity and cross-time reliability must be established. This paper establishes validity by refer…

IWo conditions allow a test of the explanation posed in 1970. First, since 1964 at least two campaigns have had substantial ideological content with the focus on the Democratic party: 1968 and 1972 (Page, 1978).' Second, the original measure of the levels of conceptualization presented in The American Voter (Campbell et al., 1960) now has been content coded for each Center for Political Studies presidential election data set from 1956 to 1976. Th…
