  • Discrimination in Latin America: An Economic Perspective

Néstor Gandelman, Eduardo Gandelman et al.•BOOK•2010

This book presents a set of studies on contemporary discrimination in Latin America that takes advantage of these new tools by focusing on social interactions that range from cooperation, group formation, and the impact of migration in poor families to specific markets such as housing and labor. The techniques applied include traditional regression analysis, experimental approaches, and audit studies, as well as structural methods. This wide rang…

  • Outsiders?: The Changing Patterns of Exclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean. Economic and Social Progress in Latin America. 2008 Report

Heather Berkman, Carmen Pagés et al.•BOOK•2008

  • Inequality, Institutions, and Informality

Mark Gradstein, Alexandra Chong et al.•REPORT•2004

These predictions are then empirically validated using different proxies of the size of the informal sector, income inequality, and institutional quality. The results are shown to be robus…

We propose a model in which the two dynamically reinforce each other and set out to test this relationship with a broad array of institutional measures. We establish double causality between better institutional quality and a more equal distribution of income, but also demonstrate that the link from the latter dominates the former. These resu…
