  • Starting with Foucault: An Introduction to Genealogy

    C G Prado•BOOK•Starting With Foucault•2018

Michel Foucault had a great influence upon a wide range of disciplines, and his work has been widely interpreted and is frequently referred to, but it is often difficult for beginners to find their way into the complexities of his thought. This is especially true for readers whose background is Anglo-American or "analytic" philosophy. C. G. Prado argues in this updated introduction that the time is overdue for Anglo-American philosophers to avail…

  • Foucault’s Legacy

    C G Prado•BOOK•Foucault’s Legacy•2009

Foucault’s Legacy brings together the work of eight Foucault specialists in an important collection of essays marking the 25th anniversary of Foucault’s death. Focusing on the importance of Foucault’s most central ideas for present-day philosophy, the book shows how his influence goes beyond his own canonical tradition and linguistic milieu. The essays in this book explore key areas of Foucault’s thought by comparing aspects of his work with the …

  • Searle and Foucault on truth

    C G Prado•BOOK•Searle and Foucault on Truth•2006

This book compares John Searle's and Michel Foucault's radically opposed views on truth in order to demonstrate the need for invigorating cross-fertilization between the analytic and Continental philosophical traditions. By pressing beyond familiar cliches about analytic philosophy and postmodernism, C.G. Prado shows that a surprising convergence of Searle's and Foucault's views on truth emerges."--Jacket

  • Rorty's Pragmatism

    Open Access•C G Prado•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1983•Cited by: 2

My objective here is to sketch a proposal against the many who insist on reading Rorty as arguing within traditional philosophy, in spite of his contentions to the contrary. I want to suggest that Rorty should be read as importantly outside the philosophical tradition and as an external critic. My proposal turns on roughing out how Rorty's brand of prag- matism differs from more familiar sorts

  • Sociobiology and Materialist Theories of Mind

    Open Access•C G Prado•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1981

I Want to argue in this paper that the optimism with respect to scientific development that has been shown by materialists since Place and Smart is in the process of being vindicated. What I shall attempt is to indicate one way in which the fledgling science of sociobiology complements Central State materialism. A secondary objective is to get philosophers to take sociobiology seriously, even if they are not materialists

  • Reflexive Consciousness

    Open Access•C G Prado•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1978

A persistent and objectionable claim is that there are states of consciousness attainable wherein there is consciousness of consciousness per se through the absence or diminution of the ordinary objects of consciousness or awareness. The claim is made by phenomenologists, religious thinkers and mystics, and some psychologists

  • Analytical Philosophy of Knowledge

    Open Access•C G Prado•ARTICLE•Dialogue•1969

This is an exciting book of considerable scope. In it Danto considers knowledge and knowledge-claims, belief, skepticism, and the relation language bears to the world. One might reflect the admitted “darkness” of the preface ( APK xii) by saying that Danto is out to show how knowledge, belief, perception, and language require that there be a gap between us and the world (the object of these), and how that gap “is a traversable space” ( loc. cit .…
