Tora in der Perserzeit
The redactional formation of the source of law and narrative in the Pentateuch leads to a complementary reading of the tradition on Israel's origins. The core of that scribal theology is the description of the successive self-revelation of God. Exodus 3,14 is the central testimony of the theology of the Old Testament.
The Cambridge Companion to Law in the Hebrew Bible
This Companion offers a comprehensive overview of the history, nature, and legacy of biblical law. Examining the debates that swirl around the nature of biblical law, it explores its historical context, the significance of its rules, and its influence on early Judaism and Christianity. The volume also interrogates key questions: Were the rules intended to function as ancient Israel's statutory law? Is there evidence to indicate that they served a…
Yahwistic Diversity and the Hebrew Bible
The underlying perspective of the present volume contributes to the recent historical debate on Yahwistic diversity in the Persian and the Hellenistic periods. A broad variety of different Yahwistic (and not necessarily Jewish) groups existed inside and outside Judah during the sixth to first century BCE, for example in Egypt (Elephantine/Jeb and Alexandria), Babylonia (al-Yahudu), Samaria, and Idumea. The main objective of the volume lies in the…
Monotheism in Late Prophetic and Early Apocalyptic Literature
The authors of this volume fill a need for a close examination of the diverse ways in which monotheism was portrayed in late prophetic and early apocalyptic Jewish literature. Adopting a range of approaches, they show that faith in a single God was no static belief, but closely tied to a host of other concerns and practices that shape its portrayal in diverse and distinctive ways.
