  • The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission

    Open Access•T G Farr, P A Rosen et al.•ARTICLE•Reviews of Geophysics•2007

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission produced the most complete, highest‐resolution digital elevation model of the Earth. The project was a joint endeavor of NASA, the National Geospatial‐Intelligence Agency, and the German and Italian Space Agencies and flew in February 2000. It used dual radar antennas to acquire interferometric radar data, processed to digital topographic data at 1 arc sec resolution. Details of the development, flight operati…

  • Water Storage of the Central Amazon Floodplain Measured with GIS and Remote Sensing Imagery

    Douglas E Alsdorf, Douglas Alsdorf•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 32

Interferometric processing of a Space Shuttle–based swath of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data collected over the central Amazon floodplain reveals one-day decreases in water levels ranging from 1 to 11 cm in mid-October 1994. The decreases, plotted in a geographic information system (GIS), do not appear to be related to water-body size. Instead, the drops correlate with distance between measured location and main river channel. Because the flo…

  • A high temporal resolution data set of ERS scatterometer radar backscatter for research in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions

    Open Access•Yongwei Sheng, Laura C Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Record•2002•References: 14

Radar backscatter in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions is temporally dynamic and reflects changes in sea ice, glacier facies, soil thaw state, vegetation cover, and moisture content. Wind scatterometers on the ERS-1 and ERS-2 satellites have amassed a global archive of C-band radar backscatter data since 1991. This paper derives three high temporal resolution data products from this archive that are designed to facilitate scatterometer research in hi…
