  • Planning new ideas

Wendelien Van Eerde, Flora Beeftink et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Aesthetics…•2025

We studied the relation between time management tendency and daily creativity in a diary study among 68 R&D engineers reporting on 412 workdays. The direct effect of time management tendency on daily creativity was positive, and the effect on its dispersion was negative. Theorizing that time management frees up cognitive and affective resources, we tested the mediating effect of concentration and positive effect in the relation between time manag…

In an interview study among 25 architects we investigated how activities were allocated over time in the design phase of an architectural project. Specifically, linking the literatures about pacing behavior and incubation, we set out to identify patterns related to how the interviewees paced their activity before a deadline. We used two types of materials to stimulate the answers in the interview: 1) standard graphs, developed in previous researc…

  • A review of the time management literature

    Open Access•Brigitte J C Claessens, Wendelien Van Eerde et al.•ARTICLE•Personnel Review•2007

Purpose The purpose of this article is to provide an overview for those interested in the current state‐of‐the‐art in time management research. Design/methodology/approach This review includes 32 empirical studies on time management conducted between 1982 and 2004. Findings The review demonstrates that time management behaviours relate positively to perceived control of time, job satisfaction, and health, and negatively to stress. The relationshi…

  • Planning behavior and perceived control of time at work

    Open Access•Brigitte J C Claessens, Wendelien Van Eerde et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2004•Citada por: 6•Referências: 8

This study investigated two mediation models of time management. The first model consisted of parts of Macan's ( 1994 ) model. The second model combined this model with Karasek's ( 1998 ) Job Demand–Control model. Two sets of self‐report questionnaires were collected and were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The first model, in which perceived control of time was hypothesized to fully mediate the relation between planning behavior and…

  • Influence of motivation and task difficulty on gender discrimination judgements

    Open Access•Christel G Rutte•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•1998•Referências: 10

A study is reported examining how motivation to detect salary discrimination influences its detection depending on the difficulty of the detection task. Subjects were presented with information about the qualifications and salaries of female and male managers in 10 departments of a hypothetical company. This information was created so that female managers were undercompensated relative to their qualifications. The main dependent variable was subj…

  • Detecting salary discrimination against male and female managers

    Open Access•Christel G Rutte, David M Messick•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•1996

This paper reports two experiments that examine factors influencing the detection of salary discrimination in organizations. Subjects were presented with information about the qualifications and salaries of female and male managers in 10 departments of an hypothetical company and were asked to judge the fairness of these salaries. It was hypothesized that the amount of information and the format in which it is presented influence fairness judgmen…

  • The Effects of Within-Group Communication on Group Decision and Individual Choice in the Assurance and Chicken Team Games

Open Access•Gary Bornstein, Danny Mingelgrin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Conflict Resolution•1996•Citada por: 2•Referências: 15

Two team games are introduced: a game of assurance and a game of chicken. The games were operationalized as a competition between two teams, with three players on each team, and were compared either with or without the opportunity for a within-team discussion. The authors found that the vast majority of the teams in both game types chose to compete, and almost all individual players abided by the group's decision. However, the rationale for choos…

  • Preference for decision structures in a social dilemma situation

Additional results from Rutte and Wilke's (1984) study are presented. In the context of a social dilemma situation two variables were manipulated: use and variance. Preference for various decision structures is the issue of the present paper. It appeared that a large majority structure and an unanimity structure were mast preferred. A small majority structure and a structure in which each decides for him/herself were intermediately preferred. Whe…

  • Individual and structural solutions to resource dilemmas in two cultures

Charles D Samuelson, David M Messick et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1984•Citada por: 30

Administered a resource management task to 86 US and 97 Dutch undergraduates. Ss were divided into groups of 6 and instructed to harvest points from a regenerating resource pool. Their objective was to maximize individual harvests while maintaining the resource pool. The factorial design crossed 3 levels of resource use (overuse, underuse, and optimal use) with 2 levels of variance of others' purported harvests (low and high). Both variables were…
