Entropy-based China income distributions and inequality measures
We use information theoretic information recovery methods, on a 2005 sample of household income data from the Chinese InterCensus, to estimate the income distribution for China and each of its 31 provinces and to obtain corresponding measures of income inequality. Using entropy divergence methods, we seek a probability density function solution that is as close to a uniform probability distribution of income (with the least inequality), as the da…
Does china income FSDs follow Benford? A comparison between Chinese income first significant digit distribution with Benford distribution
Since Benford’s law is an empirical phenomenon that occurs in a range of data sets, this raises the question as to whether or not the same thing might be true in terms of the Chinese income distribution data. We focus on the first significant digit (FSD) distribution of Chinese micro income data from the 2005 Inter-Census sample, which corresponds to 1% of Chinese population and other micro income data from the China family panel studies (CFPS) a…

Estimation of Location Parameters Under Nonnormal Errors and Quadratic Loss
Assuming a statistical model in which the joint distribution of the unobservable errors is drawn from independent univariate Student t's that are identically and symmetrically distributed, the sampling performance of traditional robust estimators and a family of Stein-like estimators are compared and evaluated. These results suggest that under thick-tailed distributions, the relative sampling performances and risk characteristics for a range of n…

Econometric Estimation
Post Data Model Evaluation
JHE PURPOSE of this article is to bring to the attention of the readers of this journal a number of related and important estimators that are currently being discussed in the statistical literature which have implications for applied work since rules are employed which seek to improve the performance of conventional estimators. In spite of the rapid advances, over the last three decades, of economic theory, econometric procedures, and data relati…
