The necessity of self-referential meta-rationality to neutralize the insight-behavior gap (or: (How to render the insight-behavior gap ineffective)
Housing Policy Reframed? How Conceptual Framing Affects Support for Social Housing Policies in Germany
Housing policy is a growing problem in many countries. Three online experiments were conducted to test framing effects in the context of housing policies in Germany. In experiment 1 (N = 303), urban growth was either described as 'rural exodus' or 'influx' of the rural population into urban areas. Experiment 2 (N = 300) focused on framing effects in the current expropriation debate in Germany. A reacquisition policy of private housing was either …
Biographische Real-Fiktion als Paradigma narrativer Erklärung
The two categories of »fiction« and »non-fiction« are most often conceived of – and treated as – disjointed and separate, not only in common sense but also in literary studies. This does not adequately reflect, however, the developmental trajectory of the non-fiction genre over the course of the twentieth century. After all, the popularization of expert knowledge has increasingly been effected with the help of narrative strategies which raise one…

Components of the Evaluation of Integrity Violations in Argumentative Discussions: Relevant Factors and their Relationships
The effects of six components relevant in the evaluation of integrity violations were tested within a completely crossed six-factor design. The following components were included in the analysis: severity of an argumentative rule violation (high vs. low), degree of subjective awareness in committing a rule violation (intentional, by negligence, unknowingly), presence versus absence of excuses and corrections, frequent versus infrequent rule viola…

Descriptive vs. prescriptive aspects of the concept of literature: The example of the polyvalence convention
Ethical Guidelines for the Conduct in Argumentative Discussions: An Exploratory Study
The Effects of (Un-)Fairness and (Im-)Politeness on the Evaluation of Argumentative Communication
The studies reported here were carried out in order to test whether people in everyday argumentative interactions evaluate contributions according to the fairness criterion of argumentational integrity. The hypotheses were (a) that violations ofthe fairness criterion are conspicuous, (b) that such violations are negatively evaluated, and (c) that in the case of specific violations (Standards 1 to 5), people distinguish between impolite and unfair…

Audience research: What the humanistic and the social science approaches could learn from each other
The Cognitive Turn in Narratology
Textoptimierung unter Verständlichkeitsperspektive
First, the construct of comprehensibility is explicated as a theoretical framework for techniques leading to optimally comprehensible texts. The explication accentuates the problem of pedagogical prescription inherent in the objective of an 'Optimum of Comprehensibility'; consequences for possibilities of optimal textual organization are discussed (objective: medium comprehensibility, competent reader). Concrete text features and organizational a…
Methodological aspects of illustrating the cognitive-reflective function of aesthetic communication
Meta-theoretical problems of psychoanalytical interpretation of literature
The function of interpretation in an empirical science of literature
The empirical study of literature and literary evaluation
Empirical methods for the study and interpretation of literature∗
The techniques of empirical research in language psychology can be helpful in reorganizing the domain of literary studies. Following a rapid survey of the major considerations in regard to such an undertaking, a specific demonstration is provided. Semantic categorization (with card‐sorting plus network‐drawing) and semantic differential were used to test the agreement between concepts from a literary text and from four variously oriented scholarl…
