Open Access•George Blazyca, Krystian Heffner et al.•ARTICLE•European Urban and Regional Studies•2002•Cited by: 3•References: 4

In the first rush of postcommunist transformation there was little governmental enthusiasm in Poland for anything as ‘activist’ as regional policy. But in 1999, after almost 10 years of neglect, regional policy received a fresh impetus with reforms to decentralize state administration. With over two years’ experience of the new system it is becoming possible to identify some of the major issues and challenges facing Polish regional policy as the …

  • Poland and the EU

George Blazyca, Marek Kolkiewicz•ARTICLE•Journal of Communist Studies•1999•Cited by: 4

In 1998 ‘Europe’ generated a noisy political debate within Poland, leading to the sacking of the minister for Europe, Ryszard Czarnecki. EU affairs appeared to be becoming more contentious with potentially serious consequences for Poland's accession. Feuds within the governmental coalition and the loss of EU funding, arising from the development of a range of issues of contention between Warsaw and Brussels, seemed to undermine Poland's prospects…

    George Blazyca•ARTICLE•Europe Asia Studies•1999•Cited by: 2

POLAND'S TRANSFORMATION from a species of planned economy, worn-out and poorly functioning, started in August 1989. At that time the country was widely considered to be the pioneer in transformation and its first non-communist government commanded much interest in Western government, business and financial circles. Yet despite a broadly successful attempt to deal with immediate problems and stabilise what was in 1989-90 an economy facing hyperinf…

  • Continuity and change in polish economic policy

George Blazyca, Ryszard Rapacki•ARTICLE•Europe Asia Studies•1996•Cited by: 4

THE VICTORY OF POLITICAL PARTIES1 whose roots were in the communist tradition in the general election in Poland in September 1993 was greeted with some alarm. As 'post-Solidarity' parties2 moved into political opposition they warned of a variety of dangers that lay ahead, suggesting that the sacrifices of the previous years risked being squandered as the new administration began, willingly or unwillingly, to repay electoral debts. The purpose of …
